The lonely hydrangea from the previous pictures has been hilled in and the ivy is almost all gone. I kind of think green (ivy) is better than brown dirt but I guess it is now the Hesitant Gardener's task to turn the brown into more green without spending too much green.
I think maybe I am seeing why the Hesitant Gardener's yard is a bit of a problem for her. The Hesitant Gardener might want to focus on one area before jumping to another area. Like your wonderful, stress-free years in dental school where the pedagogy of quadrant dentistry was king I think quadrant gardening might be in line for you. Perhaps you need to graph your medium into 4 quarters and work on the the first one and then move on to the next once you are finished with the first. Just a thought.
