The Kitchen Garden

The Challenge ~ Create a small kitchen garden in which I could grow herbs and vegetables somewhere, anywhere in our shady yard. We picked an area at the very edge of our lot line where our home's previous owner had evidently had some rose gardens. There was a brick edging in place which I modified to make it extend to the end of the lot line. Unfortunately there are trees all over our property so there is nowhere that gets 8 hours of direct sun. So...the jury is still out as to whether the veggies are getting enough sunlight.

Second Challenge ~ The Varmints
Here you see some of the pesky varmints I have to deal with in addition to dealing with the lack of direct sun. It's amazing that I am able to grow anything with these guys around....

But it truly is a labor of love as there is nothing better than fresh basil, tomatoes, peppers, parsley and garlic which you grew yourself sauteed in olive oil and tossed with pasta. Yum!
